Branch Manager I, North Hall Tech Center of the Hall County Library System

The Hall County Library System is seeking a dynamic, team-oriented leader with excellent leadership, managerial, and interpersonal skills to lead the North Hall Tech Center. This position is projected to be available May 2023. This is a full-time (40 hours a week) position, participating in the Georgia Teachers Retirement System.

The Branch Manager I is responsible for the effective operation of a branch library of 10,000 square feet or less. The manager plans, executes, and promotes library services. Responsibilities may include direct patron service, communication with the local community, and responsibility for the staff and daily activities of the branch. Reports to the Assistant Director.

Examples of work include: selecting, training, supervising and evaluating staff and volunteers; establishing work schedules, performing circulation duties including checking materials in and out, placing holds, collecting fines and issuing library cards; participating in collection maintenance by weeding and selecting materials using established library procedures and professional resources; communicating regularly with other departments including maintenance, security, and technology; providing daily assistance in finding appropriate materials and information for patrons using electronic databases, internet, as well as traditional print sources, and providing readers advisory service; interpreting library policies and procedures for branch staff; in the case of a specialized facility, maintaining pertinent records; advising patrons on material selections; preparing items for distribution and introducing new technologies/services; managing the daily activities of the branch; using a variety of software programs to gather and report statistics that reflect library activities; promoting library service to the community by providing tours, meeting room use and making outreach visits; performing other duties as assigned.

Work schedule is subject to evening and weekend assignments.

Necessary knowledge, skills and abilities: considerable knowledge of the principles and methods of modern library services including integrated automated library systems, electronic and digital resources; considerable ability to supervise, communicate and work cooperatively with co-workers; strong planning and management skills are required; considerable computer skills using various computer software including word processing, internet, search engines and office equipment; knowledge of the needs of library patrons and the ability to provide the type and level of service needed; ability to resolve routine and complex problems related to patrons or materials by applying specialized knowledge or technical skills;

considerable ability to communicate comfortably and effectively with patrons of all ages, either individually, or before an audience; strong supervisory skills; ability to maintain financial operations for the branch, including supervising weekly monetary intake and developing and administering an annual budget; solid commitment to customer service and protection of intellectual freedom and privacy rights of library users; ability to work independently; ability to lift 10 pounds.

The successful candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and two or more years of library experience, a MLS with one year of library experience, or a HS diploma/GED with five years of experience. Written and oral Spanish (bilingual) skills desirable.
