The Hall County Library System will comply with the Georgia Interlibrary Loan Code and the National Interlibrary Loan Code.

As stated in the Interlibrary Loan Code for Georgia Libraries under purpose, "It is increasingly evident that it is impossible for any one library to be self-sufficient, and because we believe that the furtherance of knowledge is in the general interest, libraries subscribing to this agreement regard interlibrary borrowing and lending as essential to library service."

The Georgia Code also states that, "Interlibrary lending does not relieve any library of the responsibility of developing its own collection. Each library will provide the resources to meet the ordinary study, educational, instructional, informational, and research needs of its users."

Requests to borrow from other libraries will be limited to those items which the library might not be expected to own. No library should depend upon another to supply the normal needs of its clientele.

The library system is not funded to provide interlibrary loan service to meet the curriculum requirements of students formally enrolled in post-secondary education.

A patron must be a resident of Hall County and have a valid borrower card to request an Interlibrary Loan. The library system will request only material needed for the purposes of study, instruction, research, and classic literature.

Interlibrary lending in Georgia rarely incurs a charge from the lending library with the exception of photocopy charges. Photocopying, postage, telecommunications, search fees, and fax charges for such services are to be paid by the patron requesting the loan when a charge is assessed to this library system. The patron will be notified of the cost of said charges and given the opportunity to cancel their request. The library system places a $3.00 fee to cover insurance on any item valued over $25.00.
