Nancy Harris Rhodes: Award winning Artist

Nancy was born in Bentonville Arkansas. From families that migrate to N.W. Arkansas
before 1860; family ties to the area run strong and deep. Nancy has always exhibited a
strong creative bent; her real push to working her art came after serving in the United
States Navy, marrying and raising children. Life gave way to too much emptiness and
too much energy that needed to be used, going back to her art was the most attractive
option to her. Nancy has been able to travel through the United States, living in the most
beautiful and interesting places. Being able to travel internationally has only added to
her wider experiences to the world. Now settled with her husband Sam, in beautiful
North Georgia area, foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. Still Bentonville is where
Nancy calls home. Nancy has embraced her art and the artist community in the
Gainesville area, along with showing her work in N. W. Arkansas. She is a member of
several Art Groups, Quinlan Visual Art Center, Hoschton Heritage Arts Council,
Braselton Arts Council, Night of Art with Jackie Yates, and Georgia Art League. She
also helps in the community with various art workshops. Nancy loves to work with
texture, lots of texture. Collage/Abstracts/Stitching/ Crocheting is where she spends her
time creating. Color, all sorts of materials, found objects, fabrics, and Turkish Yarns,
help her express her creative language. Most of her work is inspired by her experiences
with people, and what she witnesses from nature. Nancy has been recreating herself
and her relationship with God in the last several years, after surviving cancer and
chemo. Retreating to my studio for any length of time has been painful to her. Her body
couldn’t stand the time required to spend the time on her craft, let alone hold a paint
brush, a pen, or glue a straight line. My work doesn’t require to many straight lines. I’m
happy to share with you through the Gainesville Library my work, Thank you for
stopping by and seeing what I have been doing. I hope you have enjoyed the exhibition.
